Remedy Spa Hawaii’s ShakaCon, A Contest to Wrap Principal Photography

Principal photography for Remedy Spa Hawaii’s “Shaka, A Story of Aloha” wrapped with an epic Shaka Contest at Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC) on October 19, 2022. 380 guests enjoyed a traditional luau dinner, entertainment by Shaka Music Director Henry Kapono and a shaka contest that featured 9 key types of shakas discovered through the film’s quest. Remedy Spa Hawaii owner Chip Aoki flew in all the way from Tokyo to be with us as did Remedy Spa’s Top executive Mike McClean from Detroit Michigan.

The scene was created to be recorded to bookend the opening scene and closing scene of the film. PCC’s Delsa Moe emcee’ed the event that included a red carpet media wall photo opportunity, samples of music compositions in progress by Henry Kapono, hula by La’ie Community Association and the Shaka Contest itself.

The contest itself was judged by key interviewees from the film and producer Steve Sue. Finalists for each of 9 groups took the stage in groups of 6 in muscle man “shaka-off” posings. Emcee Moe called for judges and and audience votes and votes were tabulated.

We’re happy to report that photography went extremely well and the resulting content is first quality. Huge mahalo to Remedy Spa Hawaii for hosting the event and to other sponsors including Polynesian Cultural Center, 88 Tees and First Foundation Bank.
