202
5 was a watershed moment for ID8 in that our non-profit license plate program signals consistent long-term income. At the same time, we expect to enjoy increasing resources from “Shaka, A Story of Aloha” which just opened North America distribution on most streaming platforms.
Our mission of fostering ideas and expressions to create positive impacts was met well this year in amazing ways through the Shaka and 100TH projects.
I’m thankful for an amazing 2025 and look forward to an equally successful 2026 as we work to foster Ideas for Good.
With Aloha,
PROGRAMS
Project Shaka Movement
Project Shaka matured as movement this year both in terms of awareness and participation. The program includes a Trilogy of Aloha Spirit films, a FREE Shaka Sticker program, Shaka License Plates, product collabs with local companies and more. See ProjectShaka.com »
Shaka Film Goes to Distribution
Our documentary, “Shaka, A Story of Aloha” was acquired by Byron Allenʻs Freestyle Digital Media for distribution (scheduled to begin January 16, 2026) on Apple TV, Amazon Prime, Fandango at Home, YouTube Movies, Google TV and other popular platforms. TV, Airlines, cruise ships and education targets will be layered on this coming year. Amazon Prime will also offer DVD version for sale. See ShakaFilm.com »
100TH Film In Production
The second film in our Trilogy of Aloha Spirit films launched in as “THE 100TH, Seeds of Aloha,” the story of the WWII Purple Heart Battalion from Hawaiʻi that used the Aloha Spirit to raise the bar on heroism and valor both during the war and for 80 years after in the rebuilding of the world.
A large shooting event was held at Pacific Aviation Museum this summer, followed by 3-week production tour through Italy, France and Germany following the 2,000 mile battle trail of the 100th/442nd RCT and the 522nd FAB.
The film is due out for public testing Memorial Day, 2026. See 100thfilm.com
Shaka License Plates
The Shaka Plates program is growing thanks to an additional PSA directed by Board Member Rebecca Teresia.
Now that weʻre in our second year of distribution, weʻve noticed that growth is going exponential, due in part to the number of plates on the road act as bill boards and that new subscribers aggregate on top of past year subscriber, all of who pay $20/year to ID8.
Shaka Product Collaborations
Project Shaka partnered with several collaborators who really get the Aloha spirit. For example, 88 Tees, our T-shirt partner has created over 100 design variants and printed thousands Shaka shirts. These are made available through a store-in-store at their Kalakaua Blvd., Waikiki store in a space branded as “Shaka Cove.” We also refer all online t-shirt purchase inquiries to 88tees.com »
Shaka School Curriculum
We continued our partnership with the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement (CLM) to deliver in-class curriculum written by Phyllis Unebasami, former Deputy Superintendent of HIDOE. CLM serves over 20,000 schools nationwide and schools in over 120 countries. A pilot program for middle- and high school levels at all HIDOE schools was funded by HIDOE and has faired well enough to requisition an elementary school version of the curriculum.
The system consists of short Shaka film excerpts as ice-breakers to in-class exercises on Shaka themes of winning, forgiveness, compassion, aloha and gratitude. ProjectShaka.com/curriculum »
11th Annual Hawaii Comedy Festival
Congrats to Event Director Kimee Balmilero, for entering the second decade of this signature event, a conference-style event that provides learning, performance and showcase opportunities for local writers, performers and artists.
FINANCIALS
All ID8 Officers and Directors are unpaid volunteers. We have no employees. Chairperson Steve Sue donates his time to administrate the organization and donates our office space. We also actively seek to make our programs self-sustaining as social ventures.
This year was a building year, with two film productions running. However, the licensing of the Shaka Film and the growth of the Shaka License Plate program offer significant income opportunities.
We look forward to a robust 2026 of sharing good ideas that foster positive impacts. If you believe in the potential of our programs, please support us.
